Chicago Marathon Results 2024: The 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon saw historic performances across all categories, with Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya setting a new women’s world record and John Korir securing the men’s title. The race, held on Sunday, October 13, attracted elite runners and wheelchair athletes from around the globe.

Women’s Elite Race: Ruth Chepngetich Shatters World Record

In a stunning display of speed and endurance, Ruth Chepngetich (KEN) dominated the women’s race, finishing with a world-record time of 2:09:56. The 29-year-old broke the previous record of 2:14:04, setting a new benchmark for the marathon distance. Her victory was impressive, as she surged ahead in the final stages to make history in Chicago.

Sutume Kebede (ETH) claimed second place with a time of 2:17:32, while Irine Cheptai (KEN) followed closely behind in third, finishing in 2:17:52. Other notable performances included Joyciline Jepkosgei (KEN) in fifth place with a time of 2:20:51, and Susanna Sullivan (USA) who achieved a personal best, placing seventh with a time of 2:21:56.

Among American women, Emma Bates finished in 11th place with a time of 2:24:00, while Sara Hall posted a time of 2:30:12 for 18th. Keira D’Amato, a favorite heading into the race, was forced to withdraw.

Men’s Elite Race: John Korir Triumphs

In the men’s competition, John Korir (KEN) crossed the finish line in 2:02:43, earning his first Chicago Marathon victory. Korir, who had a strong finish in the final stretch, outpaced his rivals to secure the win. Huseydin Mohamed Esa (ETH) finished second with a time of 2:04:39, while Amos Kipruto (KEN) rounded out the podium in third at 2:04:50.

Vincent Ngetich (KEN) and Daniel Ebenyo (KEN) also delivered strong performances, finishing in fourth and fifth, respectively. Among U.S. men, CJ Albertson achieved an impressive result, finishing in seventh place with a time of 2:08:17, followed by Zach Panning in ninth place at 2:09:16.

Wheelchair Races: Catherine Debrunner and Marcel Hug Dominate

In the women’s wheelchair race, Catherine Debrunner (SUI) took top honors with a time of 1:36:12, finishing ahead of Manuela Schar (SUI) who placed second in 1:39:03. American legend Tatyana McFadden rounded out the podium in third, clocking a time of 1:41:59.

On the men’s side, Marcel Hug (SUI) continued his dominance, finishing first in the men’s wheelchair race with a time of 1:25:54, just ahead of Daniel Romanchuk (USA) who finished second in 1:25:58. Tomoki Suzuki (JPN) secured third place with a time of 1:26:05.
