Under the leadership of Dr. Sandeep Sangle, a meeting of the Board of Studies was convened to discuss this transformative move. The backdrop for this decision is the growing concern about the diminishing presence of mother tongues in educational and societal contexts. To counteract this trend and to amplify the prominence of the Marathi language, the proposal to include Marathi as an obligatory subject in all college-level faculties was thoroughly discussed. Advocates of this approach argue that integrating the teaching of the mother tongue at the university level could pave the way for Marathi to become deeply interwoven with business, industry, and knowledge sectors.

The unanimous agreement reached during the meeting resulted in the resolution to make Marathi a compulsory subject. Dr. Sandeep Sangle, President of the Board of Marathi Studies at Savitribai Phule Pune University, stated, ‘The Board of Marathi Studies is resolute in its mission to infuse Marathi literature and language into all academic disciplines. The board is dedicated to sustaining ongoing dialogues with government authorities and subject experts in this field. The rationale is crystal clear: by ensuring comprehensive Marathi education across all fields of study, we can lay a strong foundation for the mother tongue to thrive as a language of opportunities.'”
