Spider-Man: Brand New Day Nears All-Time Domestic Box Office Record

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is closing in on the all-time domestic box office record as the 2026 summer movie season heads toward a record-setting finish.

The Tom Holland-led Marvel film has reached about $923 million domestically, putting it roughly $13 million behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which currently holds the domestic record at $936 million. The film is expected to overtake that mark shortly.

The milestone comes during a broader resurgence for movie theaters. The U.S. summer box office is projected to reach $4.76 billion from May 1 through Sept. 7, narrowly surpassing the previous summer record of $4.756 billion set in 2013.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Drives a Strong Summer

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has been one of the biggest releases of the year, alongside Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” The two films have helped drive a strong summer at theaters, with “Brand New Day” generating about $2.408 billion worldwide and “The Odyssey” reaching $1.631 billion, according to the figures reported.

Universal led domestic studios during the May 1-Sept. 7 summer period with approximately $1.23 billion. The strong performance has provided another indication that major theatrical releases can still attract large audiences despite the continued availability of streaming entertainment.

The summer’s performance also arrives after theaters struggled to restore attendance to pre-pandemic levels. The results suggest that major theatrical releases remain capable of producing substantial box office business when audiences have a reason to see them on the big screen.

Box Office Dollars Tell Only Part of the Story

Despite its extraordinary financial performance, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has not sold as many domestic tickets as earlier blockbusters that posted comparable records.

The film has sold around 75 million tickets, compared with roughly 110 million for “The Force Awakens” and an estimated 137 million for “Titanic.”

That difference is largely tied to ticket prices. “Titanic” earned $674 million domestically when tickets averaged roughly $4.50 to $5, while the average ticket price today is around $12.

As a result, “Brand New Day” can approach the top of the domestic box office chart while reaching fewer moviegoers than earlier blockbusters.

A Record-Setting Year for Theaters

The broader 2026 box office has produced several major successes. “Toy Story 5” has earned $1.337 billion worldwide, while “The Devil Wears Prada 2” has reached $692.8 million, according to the reported global totals.

The year is not finished, either. “Dune: Part Three” and “Avengers: Doomsday” are among the major releases still scheduled for December, giving theaters additional opportunities to build on the summer’s momentum.

For Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the immediate milestone is clear: with the film only about $13 million away from “The Force Awakens,” it is positioned to become the highest-grossing domestic release in box office history.

The achievement would underscore the movie’s enormous commercial success, even as ticket-sale comparisons show how much the economics of theatrical exhibition have changed over the decades.
