Mayor Tiffany Henyard: Embattled Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard is facing escalating financial and legal troubles, with eviction proceedings adding to an already complex web of controversies. Henyard and her boyfriend, Kamal Woods, have been served with an eviction lawsuit by their landlord, Genetta Hull, for unpaid rent dating back to August. The lawsuit is just one of several issues dogging Henyard, who is also the target of an FBI investigation into alleged misuse of taxpayer funds and questionable spending during her time as mayor and Thornton Township supervisor.

Eviction Case and Landlord’s Struggles

Hull, who once considered Henyard a friend, says the couple owes thousands in back rent on the Dolton home they occupy. According to Hull, Henyard and Woods have not made payments since August after refusing a $200 rent increase that Hull imposed due to rising property taxes. Hull said she’s been left with no choice but to file for eviction, as the couple reportedly changed the locks and garage door code, preventing her from accessing her property.

“I feel I’m between a rock and a hard place,” Hull said in a recent interview. She expressed frustration with the mounting legal and financial burdens, stating that she fears losing her home altogether.

FBI Investigation into Henyard’s Financial Activities

In addition to the eviction lawsuit, Mayor Henyard is under FBI scrutiny for alleged extravagant spending and potentially using taxpayer dollars for personal gain. Investigations have revealed instances of high-end travel and other lavish expenditures during Henyard’s tenure, which have led to concerns over her financial management of public funds. The mayor, who earns nearly $300,000 annually from her dual roles, has yet to comment on these allegations publicly.

Mounting Community Tensions and Political Fallout

The controversy surrounding Henyard has led to a significant decline in her political influence in Dolton and Thornton Township. Key allies have distanced themselves, with one board member resigning and another assistant turning against her. Community trust in her leadership has waned, with local trustees taking measures to restrict her influence by holding official meetings outside of Dolton Village Hall. Henyard recently attempted to invalidate these meetings in court, but her efforts were unsuccessful, adding to her growing list of setbacks.

Hull Speaks Out Against Henyard

Hull, who has known the Henyard family for two decades, expressed disappointment with the current situation, saying, “At some point, you have to understand that karma’s going to catch up to you. Just pay your rent.” Despite the potential for Henyard and Woods to settle their debt, Hull stated she still intends to follow through with the eviction, adding that she feels she has “nowhere else to turn.”
