Levi’s Heir Daniel Lurie Wins San Francisco Mayor Race, Defeating London Breed

San Francisco Mayor: Daniel Lurie, philanthropist and Levi Strauss heir, will become San Francisco mayor. In a decisive election, the political newcomer defeated London Breed, changing city leadership.

Breed, the first Black female mayor of San Francisco, congratulated Lurie and thanked her for serving. Through her final months in office, she promised a smooth transition and continued commitment to San Francisco.

Led by Tipping Point Community founder Lurie, the campaign sought accountability and addressed San Francisco’s urgent issues. He promised to address city residents’ concerns—homelessness, crime, and affordability.

Lurie was well-liked despite her political inexperience. He spent over $8 million on his campaign, emphasizing his independence from politics and public service. Lurie won 56.2% to Breed’s 43.8%, showing voters’ desire for change.

Rising homelessness, crime, and visible drug use plagued Breed’s term, which critics said she failed to address. Breed improved in recent months, but residents’ frustration grew. According to political analysts, voters’ dissatisfaction with these issues drove the new direction.

His mother was a Levi Strauss descendant and his father a San Francisco Jewish activist. They shaped the city’s history, making Lurie seem community-minded.

Lurie expressed gratitude to his supporters and called for citywide unity after his victory. We want a safer, cheaper San Francisco regardless of your vote.
