Hyundai Bayon Name Revealed as New Intelligent SUV for India

India: Hyundai Motor India has announced the name of its upcoming SUV as the Hyundai Bayon, marking a new addition to the company’s SUV portfolio. The model is being positioned as a new global SUV developed with India’s evolving customer needs in mind.

Hyundai describes the Bayon as an intelligent SUV that brings together technology, design and a focus on everyday usability. The company says the model represents a new approach to intelligent mobility and will introduce a new expression of its global design and product philosophy.

The name Bayon is inspired by Bayonne, a city in the French Basque Country. Hyundai said the name reflects the city’s distinctive character and dynamic spirit while representing the new SUV’s sense of adventure.

The Hyundai Bayon is planned to sit between the Venue and Creta in the company’s SUV range, with its positioning just below the Creta. Unlike the Bayon sold in some European and Central Asian markets as an i20-based crossover, the India-specific model will be a distinct vehicle.

The upcoming SUV is expected to be offered with 1.5-litre petrol and CNG powertrain options. It is also expected to measure around 4.2 metres in length rather than undergoing sub-four-metre engineering for the Indian market.

Hyundai has indicated that more information about the Bayon will be revealed in the coming days as the company prepares to share further details about the new SUV.
