DT Jordan Phillips: Released by Cowboys, Hints at Return to Buffalo Bills

DT Jordan Phillips: In a recent roster shake-up, the Dallas Cowboys released veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips after a brief stint with the team. Phillips, who joined Dallas this season, had been recovering from wrist surgery, which placed him on injured reserve. He played in only two games for the Cowboys, logging 34 defensive snaps before his injury.

Phillips, a 10-year NFL veteran, has consistently contributed on the defensive line throughout his career. Over his time in the NFL, he has tallied 182 tackles, 24 sacks, 36 tackles for loss, and 52 quarterback hits. The Cowboys originally traded with the New York Giants to acquire Phillips, giving up a sixth-round pick in exchange for Phillips and a seventh-round pick in 2026.

The timing of Phillips’ release, just after the trade deadline, allowed him to express his interest in returning to a familiar team — the Buffalo Bills. Shortly after being let go by Dallas, Phillips shared a photo of himself in a Bills jersey on social media, hinting at his hope to rejoin Buffalo. Phillips previously spent four seasons with the Bills, where he showcased some of his best performances, including a standout 2019 season with 9.5 sacks and 31 tackles.

Phillips would bring valuable depth to Buffalo’s defensive line if he were to rejoin the team. The Bills are in a strong position in the AFC East, currently holding a 7-2 record and aiming for a postseason run. Adding a seasoned player like Phillips could help reinforce their defense for the challenging games ahead. With Phillips’ experience and skills, he could be an asset to the Bills as they look to make a deep playoff push. If the Bills don’t pick him up, Phillips will likely attract interest from other teams needing depth on the defensive line.

As the NFL season continues, it will be interesting to see if Phillips finds his way back to Buffalo or lands with another team.
