The fundraiser organized by the Maritime Sikh Society describes the unbearable pain the family is enduring, noting that Kaur’s mother had been panicking after failed attempts to reach her daughter by phone.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause and manner of Kaur’s death. Investigations are ongoing, involving local police and the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills, and Immigration. A GoFundMe campaign, initiated by the Maritime Sikh Society, has raised over $75,000 CAD to support Kaur’s family. The funds will help with funeral arrangements and bring her father and brother, who remain in India, to Canada for the last rites.

Walmart Canada released a statement expressing profound heartbreak and offering condolences to Kaur’s family. The company is also providing counseling for affected employees and supporting them during the store closure. The tragic loss has sparked conversations about workplace safety, especially concerning equipment like industrial ovens used in bakery departments.
