Following Pakistan’s innings loss to England in Multan, PCB introduced yet another selection team — the third since Gillespie’s appointment. He admitted his role has morphed into one he hadn’t anticipated, and he’s had to adapt his approach accordingly.

“I joined Pakistan cricket with a long-term vision, but it’s challenging when there are constant changes,” Gillespie shared in an interview with Sky Sports. “It’s not what I signed up for, to be honest. I was told clear communication would be a priority, but that hasn’t been the case,” he explained, expressing hope that a structured approach could still be fostered.

Despite the shifting dynamics, Gillespie praised the resilience of Pakistan’s players and voiced strong support for former captain Babar Azam, who has faced criticism following a series of low scores. Babar, a key figure in Pakistan’s lineup, has struggled to regain form, but Gillespie remains confident in his abilities, saying, “Babar is a world-class player. Everyone has lean patches, and I’m certain he’ll bounce back.”

Gillespie’s statement arrives as Pakistan aims to build on their momentum, having equalized the series 1-1 with a decisive victory in Multan. The PCB’s decision to field new talent like Kamran Ghulam, who scored a century in the second Test, has brought a fresh dynamic, yet Pakistan’s reliance on seasoned players like Babar remains crucial for future success.

Heading into the third Test, Pakistan’s bowling attack has dominated, with spinners Sajid Khan and Noman Ali proving instrumental by securing wickets early. The Rawalpindi crowd witnessed Sajid Khan’s stellar performance as he claimed six wickets, pushing Pakistan into a favorable position against England’s batting lineup.
