Indian Railways: No Privatization Plans, Confirms Railway Minister

Indian Railways: Amid ongoing speculation and rumors about the privatization of Indian Railways, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has firmly denied any such plans. Speaking in Nashik today, the minister addressed the growing concerns that the Indian government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is moving towards privatizing the railways.

The opposition parties have frequently raised this issue, accusing the government of pushing towards privatization. However, Minister Vaishnaw took the opportunity to clear the air, stating, “There is a misconception being created regarding the privatization of Indian Railways, but let me assure you that no such thing is going to happen.”

No Place for Privatization in Railways

The minister emphasized that railways and defense sectors should never be dragged into political discussions. He reiterated that there is no decision or plan to privatize the Indian Railways, a statement he had previously made in Parliament as well. “Currently, projects worth ₹12,500 crore are underway to upgrade general coaches,” Vaishnaw shared.

Vaishnaw also highlighted the significant transformations in the Indian Railways under PM Modi’s leadership, such as the launch of modern trains like Vande Bharat and Vande Metro. The high-speed Bullet Train project is also progressing swiftly, he added. Additionally, the government is working to enhance security for soldiers with bulletproof jackets and other necessary equipment.

Railway Employees to Receive Diwali Bonus

In another development, the Modi government has announced a significant Diwali bonus for Indian Railway employees, benefiting around 11.72 lakh workers. The railway employees will receive a bonus equivalent to 78 days’ wages, a move hailed as a productivity-linked reward. The government has approved a total of ₹2029 crore for this purpose.

This bonus, which is higher than two months’ salary for most employees, is seen as a gesture of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the railway staff.

Investment in Railway Infrastructure and Safety

Minister Vaishnaw also shared that ₹35 crore has been allocated to enhance security for the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and other railway services. These funds will be utilized for modernizing facilities and providing better safety measures for railway staff and passengers alike.

The Indian Railways, the lifeline of the country, continues to evolve with various modernization efforts, but as clarified by the minister, privatization is not on the agenda. Instead, the focus remains on improving infrastructure and ensuring a better travel experience for passengers.
