Pune Crime,16 Oct: In the Bopdev Ghat Case, Pune Police have seized vital evidence from the accused, including a stick and clothes, which were allegedly used to threaten the victim and her friend. The accused has been remanded to 14 days judicial custody while police custody remains reserved for further investigations, as ordered by First-Class Magistrate A. A. Kulkarni.

The main accused, identified as Chandrakumar Raviprasad Kanojia (20), a resident of Undri, originally from Dindori, Madhya Pradesh, was apprehended last week in connection with the heinous crime. Meanwhile, his accomplice, Akhtar Babu Sheikh, was arrested by the Pune Police Crime Branch from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on October 14, 2024. Another suspect is still at large, and efforts to locate him are ongoing. (Pune Crime)

The brutal incident took place on October 3, 2024, at Table Point, Bopdev Ghat. Just a week later, Kanojia was arrested, and his police custody was extended for three days. Following the completion of his custody, Kanojia was presented before the court in Wanawadi on October 15, 2024.

As part of the investigation, Pune Police have sent the accused’s DNA samples, blood, hair, nails, and saliva for forensic testing. Before committing the gang rape, the accused were reportedly roaming Bopdev Ghat with the intent to rob. Kanojia led the police to the crime scene, where key samples were collected, aiding the ongoing investigation.

An identification parade for Kanojia, along with the recently arrested Akhtar Sheikh, is scheduled to be held in front of the victim and witnesses. The police plan to conduct a joint interrogation of all accused once the third suspect is apprehended. This move is crucial to linking the entire group involved in the crime.
